Sadly, Canada is out of the world cup, but what an amazing run we had! Big congratulations to the Canadian team for a great performance and for inspiring many upcoming football players in this country. The excitement of the world cup continues and for those of you that joined the GMS FIFA World Cup 2026 Fantasy League, we are getting closer to the final standing and prize distribution. Please complete this short form to help identify yourself if you’re part of the fantasy league. Finally, we’re only a few days away from the start of the 2026 Summer Chess & Fun camp in Oakville. Enjoy this issue where I share key tax and financial planning tips to help you navigate both simple and complex tax situations. Please remember to share this with your network:

1. Fun Summer Chess & Fun Camp in Oakville

If you don’t have Summer plans for your kids or if you’re looking for an additional option, we run aSummer Chess & Fun camp in Oakville. Registration is quickly filling up for our 2026 Summer chess & fun camps. This year, we are running two full-day camp sessions. The first camp starts in about two weeks and will run from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 3, 2026. The second camp will run from July 13 to July 17, 2026. Our Summer camp is fun with chess, soccer, basketball, money management for kids, and other fun activities. Kids come out of this camp equipped with new skills, particularly, the money skills that many kids lack. At the end of the camp, in addition to elevating their knowledge of chess, your kids will know the difference between assets and liabilities; good debt and bad debt; assets that grow in value and assets that depreciate in value; the importance of saving, and many more. 2. Most Canadians talk about “income” like it’s all the same. It isn’t — and the CRA definitely doesn’t see it that way

In my latest article, I break down the four main types of income in Canada (employment, dividends, capital gains, and truly tax‑free income) and show how each one is taxed very differently. More importantly, I explain why the mix of income you earn can cost you (or save you) tens of thousands of dollars over your lifetime — and what you can start doing now, right after tax season, to shift more of your income into smarter, more tax‑efficient buckets.

If you’re serious about keeping more of what you earn — whether you’re an employee, professional, or business owner — this is a practical, plain‑language read.

4. Why Business is a great tool for Wealth Building

One of the tools I recommend in combating taxes is owning a business. Why? Because businesses in Canada pay one of the lowest tax rates, approximately 12% in Ontario compared to a marginal personal tax rate of over 50%. If you’re a full-time employee, you have very limited opportunities to reduce your taxes so starting a side business is a critical step in managing your overall tax exposure. In this video (https://youtu.be/yzdIbOLPFEo?si=TbtzxqfkSrtKzFhI), I outline what it takes to start a business and also give you an opportunity to watch module 1 of a 10-module training I created a few years ago to help you launch your profitable side business.
